Laptop Rentals for Trans Atlantic Travelers

This has the IT industry looking for better solutions for traveling executives. An Affordable Convertible Netbook Tablet from Lenovo

Diposting oleh fatih on Rabu, 24 Maret 2010

lenovo ideapadMany different companies make a variety of different types of netbooks, but not many have adopted the convertible tablet netbook that has been emerging recently. This is probably because is can be a very costly netbook to design and manufacture. Convertible tablets are comparable in weight and size to an ultraportable or thin and light laptop. They look pretty much like a traditional laptop except for the fact that the screen swivels 180 degrees and can fold flat over the keyboard of the laptop. You can utilize a convertible tablet netbook to navigate menus, documents, and Web pages all through the touchscreen.

It’s the rotating hinges and the touchscreen display that jacks the price of netbooks like this up. Pricing is one of the reasons that these netbooks have had trouble taking off, but Lenovo is now offering the IdeaPad S10-3t, which is one of the first reasonably priced convertible tablets to be made available to the public. If you’re at all interested in convertible tablets, the S10-3t is definitely one that you should look into if you aren’t interested in putting out $1000 or more.

I personally thought that the design of the S10-3t was very intriguing. It’s a little bit thicker and longer than most 10-inch netbooks, but this is necessary to accommodate the swivel hinge and the touch panel. The netbook weighs in at 2.9 pounds and comes standard with a 4-cell battery. Many may not like the plain design of the S10-3t, but I thought that it fit the netbook. It features a shiny black top without any fancy detailing.

I find the swivel touch screen to be extremely fascinating. When you rotate it the full 180 degrees, you can then proceed to lay the screen down flat against the keyboard of the netbook. How cool is that? Although many could say that this function is very similar to that of Apple’s iPad, the advantage you have with a convertible netbook is that you have the luxury of a keyboard whenever you want it which can come in handy. The screen on the S10-3t is 10-inches and features 1,024 x 600 resolution. When utilizing the touch feature, you solely use your finger, just like for the iPad or the iPhone. You can use one finger to navigate the screen or use two to pinch and enlarge photos and documents. Due to the fact that the S10-3t’s touchscreen is designed for you to use your finger, it does not feature the handwriting recognition capabilities that some tablets that use a stylus have, but it still performs every other function that you could need.

The keyboard on the S10-3t is almost full size and is very responsive. The netbook’s other features also include: 2 USB ports, a VGA port, an Ethernet port, an SD slot, built-in 802.11n Wi-Fi, 250GB of hard drive, a 1.83GHzAtom N470 processor, 2GB of memory, and Windows 7 Home Premium. A lot of these features can’t be found on most netbooks, so I was impressed.

I really feel like this is a deal if you’re looking for a convertible netbook. Lenovo ships the S10-3t out for $650. This is incredible, as most convertible netbooks start around $1000. I think with all of the features and the impressive price tag, Lenovo has hit a home run with the new ThinkPad S10-3t.

Samsung's N150 Netbooks Get New Colors

Diposting oleh fatih

Samsung N150 CorbyThe N150 netbooks from Samsung quickly rose in popularity after being presented at CES 2010. The netbooks had a really impressive spec sheet. Packing an Intel Atom N450 (1.66GHz, 667MHz, 512KB) processor, Windows 7 Starter Edition, 1GB (DDR2/1GBx1) of memory, a 10.1-inch WSVGA (1024x600) anti-glare LED display, a 250GB SATA 5400RPM hard drive, an Intel GMA 3150 video card, HD audio, 2 stereo 1.5W speakers, microphone, WiFi 802.11 b/g/n WLAN, 10/100 Ethernet LAN, Bluetooth 2.1 + Enhanced Data Rate, 3 USB 2.0 slots (one with feature charging from PC off), headphone jack, microphone jack, 1 VGA port, 1 RJ45 port, 3-in-1 memory card reader (SD, SDHC, MMC), digital LiveCam webcam and a 6-cell lithium ion battery for up to 8.5 hours of battery life.

While the specs, obviously, are good, one thing the N150s didn't have was an intense visual appeal. Starting off the N150 netbooks came in standard black or white with a small red piping around the body. But Samsung has gone and added a splash of color to the devices. Instead of the plain old colors you can now get the N150 in red, blue, black matte, Bermuda Blue, Caribbean Yellow or Flamingo Pink. The color of the device is primarily on the top of the lid with a matching color stripe around the body of the computer. The borders of the screen as well as the keyboard and borders are white, or black if you get a black N150. In some countries, the N150 has even acquired the Corby brand as seen on Samsung's affordable mobile phones.

According to Vice President of Samsung's Information Technology Division Charles Barlocco, "The design and style are dominant features in the philosophy of Samsung. We wanted to join the technical performance of the N150 with the color, vivacity and style of Corby so you can always stay connected and not pass unnoticed. The Samsung N150 Corby show how attention to detail is a key component for Samsung and how we are always careful to discover new styles and trends and able to bring cutting-edge products."

The only difference to these new N150's is the color. All the specs and hardware is still the same. This seems like a good move for Samsung, especially with all the other companies making brightly colored laptops like Dell and there colorful Inspiron laptops. The colorful versions of the N150 should be going on sale in Italy first for a price of $379. The colorful N150s can also be found on Samsung's website.

MSI's New GE700
MSI is announcing a new "gaming and entertainment" laptop: the GE700, which is a slightly larger version of the GE600, which debuted just weeks ago. It's powered by the Intel Core i5 and supports DirectX 11 for 3D graphics. It features two cinema-class speakers and a subwoofer, as well as Cinema Pro technology, which produces richer colors and a higher resolution, and an ATI Radeon HD5730 discrete graphics card with 1GB DDR3 display memory.

If you like to carry lots of files, this is the laptop for you. It supports two 2.5-inch SATA hard drives at 500GB a piece (or you can opt for 250 and 320GB if you choose). Unfortunately, the laptop is a little heavy at 7.05 pounds.

Other features include: Windows 7 Home Premium, a 17.3-inch HD TFT LCD Screen, HM55 Chipset, HD Webcam, 802.11 a/b/g/draft n Wi-Fi, Bluetooth V2.1 + EDR, a 4-in-1 card reader (XD/SD/MMC/Memory Stick), and a 9 or 6-cell battery.

Acer's TimelineX 1830T

Acer's TimelineX 1830T

As they often do, computer geeks everywhere got excited when they heard that Acer has made an FCC filing regarding a new laptop - the TimelineX 1830T - but not a lot of information was known about the computer. Now the mystery is solved as some computer bloggers have gotten their hands on some of the specs for the TimelineX 1830T and it seems as though, for the most part, they're pretty excited.

The Laptop is based on the Intel Calpella platform, specifically on the HM55 chipset and the Intel Core i5-520UM dual-core CPU. It has a base clock speed of 1.06GHz and supports Hyper Threading. It comes with Intel Turbo Boost technology, which can make it go as high as 1.83GHz, depending on the active cores, temperature, and utilization.

It features 2GB of RAM, an 11.6-inch screen with a maximum resolution of 1366 x 758 pixels, and a 160GB hard drive. The graphics core has a clock between 166MHz and 500MHZ. According to experts, that's not great for gaming, but it works well for video.

Connecting to the internet and other communication shouldn't be a problem. The laptop features Gigabit LAN, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, a multi-card reader, three USB 2.0 ports, and an HDMI output. As far as looks go, it has a full-sized keyboard with flat keys, is about an inch thick, has a textured mesh on the cover of the lid and the touchpad is barely noticeable.

The battery is supposed to last around eight hours. Acer will announce the new notebook during the last week of March, along with other new TimelineX Series notebooks. No word on when it will be available or how much the new laptop will sell for.

HP's New Core i7 Business Laptops

HP's New Core i7 Business Laptops

Hewlett Packard has announced that it will be updating several of its business laptops. The new models will be thinner and lighter, feature the latest Core i5 and Core i7 chips, and they are even creating the company's first multi-touch tablet for professionals.

The Elitebook 2540p is an update to the 2530p. At just a little over an inch thick and with a weight of 3.4 pounds, it's the most portable EliteBook so far. The 12.1 inch laptop has a newer Intel processor than its predecessor, that operates at standard voltages. It can be configured with the with the 2.40GHz Core i5-520M, 2.53GHz Core i5-540M or 2.6GHz Core i7-620M. This is something other companies are lacking. Dell doesn't currently offer a 12-inch or smaller laptop with Core i5 or Core i7 and while Lenovo does, they are only available with the low-voltage versions.

Battery life could end up being a problem for the laptops, but HP claims the battery life will range from four hours (3-cell battery), to eight hours (6-cell battery) to ten hours (i-cell battery). Another potential problem is that an internal optical drive can only be configured if you go with the slower 1.8-inch hard drive. But the EliteBook 2540p will start at $1,099 and will be available for purchase in April.

The EliteBook 2740p is an update to the 2730p. The convertible tablet now supports multi-touch. It has a 12.1-inch LED-backlit display, Core i5 and Core i7 processors, and Intel graphics. It's a little thicker and heavier than the 2730p, at 1.3 inches and 3.8 pounds. It can't be configured with an internal DVD drive, but HP says it will offer an optional display for outdoor viewing. According to HP, the battery lasts for about five hours and an optional HP 2700 Ultra-Slim battery will increase that to eleven hours. It will be available in April and will start at $1,599.

HP has also redesigned its ProBook small business series of laptops, which includes the 13.3-ProBook 4320s, 14-inch ProBook 4420s, 15.6-inch ProBook 4520s and 17.3-inch ProBook 4720s. The new ones have a brushed-aluminum metal case and has the latest Core processors (i3, i5, and i7). The laptops in the ProBook series will start at $719 and will be available later in March.

Asus Eee PC 1005HA

Diposting oleh fatih on Rabu, 03 Maret 2010

In the world of Netbook computers, it can be difficult to tell one from another. They’re all about the same size and have more or less the same look. Even prices don’t vary dramatically, especially with the advent of the cell phone providers subsidizing prices for many basic models. We’ve done our research here to make sure that you can get the best bang for your netbook buck and still come up with an awful lot of computing power in a very convenient package. The Asus Eee PC 1005HA may just be the device that defines the devices at this point in their evolution.

Standout Features

• 10.1-in, diagonally measured, display screen
• Superb battery life
• 1.66 GHz intel Atom N280 processor
• 1GB RAM Memory
• 160GB Hard drive

Features: Excellent

For the longest time we were just convinced that the Eee designation just had to stand for something significant – some combination of electric, electronic, eclectic, esoteric, electromagnetic…it really didn’t matter what, it just seemed like it had to mean something worthy of the capable little computer. Alas, we had to swallow our disappointment when it came purely from the marketing guys and apparently is merely a combination of Easy to Learn, Easy to Work and Easy to Play. While all of those attributes are likely worthwhile, it sure seems like a waste of a potentially great acronym.

That notwithstanding, this the Asus Eee PC 1005HA really in is a terrific, tiny computer. As with any netbook, extreme portability is a major factor and at 10.3 inches wide and 7.1 inches deep we’re talking about something that’s smaller than a sheet of paper. Of course, it’s substantially thicker than that but still measures just 1.4 inches thick at its thickest rear dimension. It’s light, too, weighing in at just 2.9 pounds. The AC adapter adds about an addition half pound but this computer has such great battery life that if will often not be required. It’s pretty hard to complain about dimension like that.

Even with its diminutive size, the 10.1 inch display screen will suit most users and the keyboard, while small by desktop or full-sized laptop standards is still quite adequate for most purposes. At 1024 x 600 resolution, we found it to be adequate but could be crisper. Best advantage has been taken of the relatively limited keyboard real estate by utilizing tiny function keys, squashed up and down arrows and multi-function keys for numbers and some letters. Still, we don’t have much room for complaining…after all, we’re the same folks who write about spacious keypads of on smartphones.

The most critical workings of the Asus Eee PC 1005HA are centered around the adequate power that provided by the 1.66GHz Intel Atom N280 processor, 1GB of RAM and a 512MB cache. Storage is provided in the form of a 160GB hard drive. Given that size is a premium, we can’t help but think that a solid-state drive should have been considered but there would be trade-offs there both in terms of available storage and price so we can’t fault the choice of the hard drive.

The battery for this little powerhouse is a real standout. It’s a 6-cell Lithium Ion 63 WHr unit that the manufacturer rates at a pretty impressive 10.5 hours. Indeed, it outlasted that of any similar device we’ve tested. Other typical features of the Asus Eee PC 1005HA include an integrated 1.3-megapixel webcam both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi connectivity and a headphone jack. Unlike many other such devices, it sports a pair of stereo speaker which, though they certainly won’t rock the house, are far better than expected. The touchpad takes a little bit of getting used to but does feature multi-touch technology so you can zoom in or out on images with the famous pinching and expanding motions.
Summary:

In the world of netbook computing, there is often not a lot separating one device from another. Such is not the case with the Asus Eee PC 1005HA which distinguishes itself in a number of ways. The exceptional battery is likely the single best reason to choose this netbook but all in all it offers a package that can’t be beaten.

The Sony VAIO VPC-Z116GXS Laptop

Diposting oleh fatih on Selasa, 02 Maret 2010

sony vaioSony is known for having top of the line laptops. Before netbooks and CULV laptops, the Z-series of Sony’s laptops was one of the best-selling lines. They were the most chic and powerful laptops available. Right now, the VAIO VPC-Z116GXS is the only 13-inch ultraportable laptop that runs an Intel Core i5 processor and a switchable graphics system. If any of this has caught your attention, then keep reading.

The Z116GXS is beautifully designed. It is enveloped in carbon fiber and magnesium metals that make the laptop extremely sturdy and durable, as well as attractive. Sony was able to design the Z116GXS in a way that allows it to weigh in at only 3-lbs. The laptop features 1,600 x 900 resolution that allows for a crystal clear picture.

The keys found on the keyboard of the Z116GXS are smaller than many of their competitors, but Sony made sure to leave plenty of space in between the keys to make sure that the user didn’t feel cramped when typing. The keyboard also features backlighting which is becoming more prevalent in laptops today. It also has a spacious touchpad and a mouse button that is pleasingly quiet.

There are countless features to be found on the Z116GXS. Some of these include: an internal optical drive that can be switched out for a Blu-ray player, three USB ports, HDMI-Out, card slots for SD memory cards, a fingerprint reader, Bluetooth, and the latest 802.11n Wi-Fi cards from Intel.

The performance of the Z116GXS is outstanding. It could easily be called one of the most powerful laptops available today. As I mentioned previously, the laptop runs on a Core i5-540M processor. The 4GB of DDR3 memory allows the Z116GXS to be an extremely fast machine.

The laptop has both a Intel GMA HD graphics chipset and a Nvidia GeForce GT 330M graphics chipset. It also has the ability to switch back and forth between the two chipsets. The Nividia will allow you to enjoy 3-D intensive graphics, while the Intel will help you to save your battery life. The Z116GXS comes standard with a six-cell battery that lasts around 5 hours.

As you can see, the Sony Z116GXS is truly an amazing laptop. It has so many incredible features that make it stand out among many other laptops. Now it also has a price tag that makes it stand out as well. The Z116GXS starts at $1,800. It is your decision as to whether or not this laptop is worth putting out the cash. It you do make this decision, I can guarantee you will not be sorry.
